Man and Machine: How One-Person Security Teams Can Leverage AI to Manage Natural Disasters

In anticipation of GSX, we sat down with presenters of upcoming sessions in order to get a better understanding of the topics at hand. This week we are featuring, “How One-Person Security Teams Can Leverage AI to Manage Natural Disasters,” presented by Chris Hurst, Vice President, Global Intelligence, at Crisis24 and Nick Hill, Senior Analyst, Global Risk and Intelligence Services, Crisis24. Read on for what they had to say and don’t forget to register for GSX 2025

Q: How did you become interested in your topic?

CH: I cofounded an AI startup in 2013 and since then have been focused on leveraging emerging technology and AI developments to transform intelligence and critical event management.

Q: Tell us about your presentation and why security professionals should have this topic on their radar.

NH: This session is all about enablement and being future ready, now. AI technology represents an inflection point in our industry and a true force multiplier. We want security professionals from both small and large teams to see the power of AI in tangible, practical ways.

Q: What advice would you give security professionals interested in this topic?

CH: AI is a superpower for the bad guys AND the good guys. Dynamic risks require us to be forward leaning with AI technology – we can’t afford to be technology laggers this time. AI models are at their best when provided highly specialized data and processes. We need security professionals to shape and mold these AI models for the best outcome.

Q: How do you see this issue evolving in the next 2-5 years?

NH: Agents are the latest buzz with AI, and for good reason. Over the next five years we are excited to see enterprise adoptions and applications in addition to continued personal adoption. This is made possible with Agentic AI.

Q: Why do you attend GSX?

CH & NH: We are excited to attend GSX because this is where security professionals come together to discover solutions, partners, and thought leadership. We aren’t just focused on the challenges we face and the dynamic risks we are managing, but instead actively working together to build better solutions, practices, and resilience through networking.
